Overview
TRC is looking for an experienced consultant to join our Digital Grid Solutions team in EMEA, being part of the Energy Control Systems (ECS) practice.
This role focuses on SCADA/EMS, SCADA/ADMS, DERMS, ANM, DSA, WAMS/WAMPAC, forecasting, MMS, and other applications in the control centre and closely linked to it.
Work in the heart of the Control Room of the Future (CRo F) programmes at transmission and distribution system operators, to build a modern, modular and scalable system business architecture, business capabilities and decoupled business processes.
Experience/affinity with business architecture, business capabilities, cloud-native developments, modular system architecture, GE e-terra, Power On, Grid OS, Hitachi Network Manager, OSI Monarch, Siemens Gridscale X, Spectrum Power, SE ADMS, AGMS, and other solutions in the control centre.
Responsibilities
- System operations
- Provide consultancy and subject-matter expertise to Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and Distribution System Operators (DSOs) on power system operations, operational processes, and control-room functions.
- Support the design, implementation, optimization, and operation of SCADA/EMS/DMS and related operational technology platforms.
- Analyze and improve real-time system monitoring, situational awareness, alarm management, network visualization, and operational decision-support capabilities.
- Support the development and implementation of Distribution System Management and DSO capabilities, including the transition from traditional DNO operating models toward active Distribution System Operator (DSO) functions.
- Provide expertise in Automatic Generation Control (AGC), Load Frequency Control (LFC), frequency regulation, balancing, and ancillary services.
- Support the specification, configuration, testing, and operational use of DSA (Dynamic Security Assessment) solutions, including contingency analysis, stability assessment, operational security monitoring, and decision support.
- Develop and optimize operational processes, procedures, business requirements, and control-room workflows for TSO and DSO environments.
- Support the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs), renewable generation, demand response, energy storage, and flexibility services into system operation.
- Analyze requirements for TSO-DSO coordination, including exchange of operational information, network models, forecasts, constraints, flexibility, and real-time data.
- Support the development of operational use cases, functional requirements, system specifications, and solution architectures for EMS, DMS, ADMS, SCADA, DSA, LFC and related systems.
- Assess and improve the integration and interoperability of operational technology (OT), IT, and data platforms supporting system operations.
- Support real-time and near-real-time data quality, validation, and availability for operational applications and control-room decision-making.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of network security, operational limits, remedial actions, congestion management, and system restoration processes.
- Support the definition and validation of interfaces between control-room systems, including SCADA, EMS, DMS/ADMS, forecasting, market, flexibility, and network model management platforms.
- Conduct business process analysis, gap assessments, maturity assessments, and operational capability reviews for TSOs and DSOs.
- Support requirements engineering, vendor evaluation, solution design, testing, commissioning, and acceptance of system operation solutions.
- Develop and execute functional, integration, and operational test scenarios, including support for system upgrades and new functionality.
- Facilitate workshops with system operators, engineers, IT/OT specialists, vendors, and other stakeholders to translate operational requirements into implementable solutions.
- Prepare technical specifications, process documentation, operating procedures, architecture documentation, reports, and recommendations for system operations initiatives.
- Support change management and operating-model transformation associated with the evolution from conventional DNO operations to DSO-based active network management.
- Monitor developments in grid operation, automation, flexibility, DER integration, digitalization, and TSO-DSO coordination, and assess their implications for clients.
- Provide expert advice on the future evolution of control-room and system-operation capabilities, including increased automation, advanced analytics, and decision-support technologies.
- Client-facing
- Act as the project lead/member for nominated customer projects and/or programmers, engaging directly with business, IT and operations.
- Facilitate and/or lead Sys Ops and technical workshops
- Advise clients on solution options, trade-offs and migration paths, articulating business value, risk and cost implications in language suitable for both executives and technical teams.
- Delivery engagement
- Being part of project delivery teams during the whole life cycle of a project. This can be as a representative of the customer or being part of the delivery team.
- Anticipate and manage functional, technical, and data risks such as data quality, business integration complexity, or performance.
- Ensure that project decisions, standards and deviations are clearly documented and communicated to all stakeholders.
- Practice development & thought leadership
- Contribute to the development of TRC’s data management capabilities and functional knowhow in Energy Control Systems.
- Capture and share lessons learned, leading practices and reusable artefacts.
- Stay current with industry trends in smart grids, EMS/ADMS/DERMS, cloud, data and integration, and bring these insights into client conversations and propositions.
Qualifications
- Typically, 6-10+ years of experience in the energy and utilities sector, including significant time in Sys Ops for TSOs, DSOs, Generation and/or utility-focused consultancies.
- Proven experience with control centre solutions, standardisation and/or cleansing involving OT applications and network models.
- Strong understanding of grid operations / system operations processes.
- Practical knowledge of utility integration and data standards such as IEC 60870-5-104/101, ICCP, IEC 61850, Open ADR, IEEE 2030.5, Kafka, AMPQ/MQTT, CIM/CGMES, and their use in real projects/products.
- Excellent communication and facilitation skills, to a variety of stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams.
- Degree/HND in Electrical/Power Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline or relevant industry experience
- Qualifications with PRINCE2, PMP, TOGAF, and/or vendor data management solutions is strongly preferred.

In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition.
Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation
Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
