Department Overview: Global Enterprise Services (GES) is one of the foundational divisions of the TMX Group, that empowers internal TMX business lines for their technology needs, operations and digital innovation. GES as a client centric organization focuses on building technology capabilities, enabling our clients with the best technology solutions and providing effective technology financial and resource management processes. The cost effective operation is a key attribute of the GES execution. GES is responsible for delivery of all technology initiatives and services across TMX.

Role Summary: The Systems Engineer is responsible for management and support of various infrastructure technologies on the distributed system platforms. The incumbent will design, build and maintain technical solutions based on business requirements and evaluation of information technology trends and practices. The engineer will require a broad skill set with excellent problem solving and analytical skills in addition to a strong automation and programmatic, Infrastructure as Code, approach to systems management.

The Role: You will be part of the Information Technology (IT) team that demonstrates superb technical ability, working in a challenging environment, supporting the business in day-to-day operations. The primary responsibility of this position is to develop, maintain, continuously improve and support internal IT infrastructure. The Systems Engineering team is situated within the IT & InfoSec function, working directly alongside the Infrastructure Engineering, Networking Engineering, and Service Delivery teams. You will be providing expert infrastructure oversight, ensuring successful delivery and performance of IT services for our clients and the fulfillment of our obligations and processes. The role will take on delivering internal projects, BAU workstreams (patching, application and infrastructure support), and supporting internal users. This role is mainly focused on administering our Private Cloud technology stack.

Responsibilities:

  • Research and identify the most appropriate options for the Systems Engineering team and, in turn, the business.
  • Design the architecture of the required infrastructure solution.
  • Manage the deployment, maintenance and upgrade paths of the infrastructure.
  • Identify, deploy and maintain appropriate connectivity options.
  • Maintain and test Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans and systems.
  • Contribute to the overall quality of service delivered to internal users and clients.
  • Support the team in dealing with critical incidents.

Design:

  • Contribute to the roadmap for the development and evolution of the infrastructure and systems that are appropriate for the current needs as well as scalable for the future needs of the business.

Continuous improvement:

  • Contribute toward design improvements that allow for more efficient support of the environment, applications and clients.
  • Actively contribute to increasing the availability of our services by providing iterative improvements to existing infrastructure solutions.

The Person:

Interpersonal: High affinity for teamwork and collaboration. Communication skills - verbal and written, and ability to listen and take on board other’s points of view are a must. Ability to manage time, prioritise work, work under pressure. Are a self-starter and possessing a proactive nature whilst also being process and quality driven. Business minded and able to focus on value-added; passionate about solving real business needs rather than using technology for technology’s sake.

Technical: Deep knowledge and proven experience of managing an enterprise Linux estate in a corporate environment (especially Red Hat-based) with strong knowledge of Red Hat-based systems such as Satellite, IDM, and AAP. Strong proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tooling. Especially Ansible, and Terraform (OSS is acceptable, though HCP is preferred). Robust experience in deploying and managing DevOps tools, including K8s Helmcharts, Hashicorp Vault, ArgoCD, Istio, AKS, EKS, and ECS. Solid Infrastructure and OS background, Linux & Windows in an Active Directory environment. Excellent scripting skills e.g.: Bash, Python or equivalent. Knowledge and experience in working with cloud platforms with focus on Azure and AWS is ideal. Experience in deploying and maintaining a VDI infrastructure is highly desirable. Experience in designing, deploying and maintaining postfix.
