Your Mission

The challenge we are focused on: most organizations have AI capabilities scattered across different systems with no seamless way to orchestrate them. We’re building the platform that enables AI agents to work across an organisation's entire stack with governance and integration built in. At Tray.ai, you’ll tackle problems that have real impact and are looking for engineers who love digging into complex problems, care about shipping a product quickly, and want to see their work have real impact.

The Role

As part of our Applications Engineering team, you’ll help build the product that customers interact with every day. This means solving the problems that help our customers succeed with Tray, from their first workflow to running extensive automated processes and AI agents in production. You’ll work on making complex integration and automation feel intuitive, reliable, and powerful. You’ll be working with a team that solves problems, cares about quality through test automation, and ships frequently. Together, you’ll be a part of a team that owns and shapes the Tray application.

What you will do

• Work closely with other engineers, product, and business teams to deliver new and updated features that are high quality and loved by our customers.
• Work closely with our Product team to deliver a user experience that is accessible, consistent, and easy to use.
• Build prototypes and build iterative features from the ground up.
• Lead technical and product discussions to ensure a safe but pragmatic engineering approach to customer problems.

Recent projects our engineers have worked on, for example:

• Launched Merlin Agent Builder, a super smooth experience to get up and running with AI agents. This project encompasses our front end, back end and AI engineers working closely with our product and UX teams, as well as customer success. This has been a long running, greenfield project that lives inside our legacy codebase.
• Prototyping and creating proof of concepts to help explore and validate ideas.
• Juggling priorities as excitement for new features meets technical challenges.
• Working to understand new AI concepts to help shape the vision of the product.
• Working to champion best practices in new features, while maintaining and improving existing code patterns.
• Upgrading our NX architecture to reduce tech debt, and improve developer experience.
• Consolidating configuration across 100+ libraries through centralised NX plugins.
• Enforcing module boundaries to prevent circular dependencies.
• Migrating to type‐first organisation to ensure clean separation between API clients, utilities, and UI components.

About You

• Strong frontend engineering skills with experience working on React, JavaScript/Typescript applications, and large-scale codebases.
• Experience with writing and owning test automation for the frontend (we use Jest, Playwright for E2E testing).
• Experience working in flexible environments, balancing priorities and explaining technical detail.
• Experience working with multiple stakeholders (design, product, internal customers) to iterate toward ideas.
• Good knowledge and demonstrable experience with CI/CD pipelines (we use GitHub Actions).
