Travis Talent Ltd are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a well-established Sheffield-based engineering business that continues to experience strong growth across a range of technically advanced projects. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Electrical Hardware Design Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team working on bespoke control and automation systems for customers across multiple sectors.
This role would suit someone from an electrical, controls, or systems engineering background who enjoys a varied, hands-on position combining design, problem-solving, commissioning, and customer-facing project work.
The RoleWorking as part of a collaborative engineering team, you will be involved throughout the full project lifecycle — from concept and design through to build, testing, installation, and commissioning. Projects are highly bespoke, technically challenging, and delivered into a range of industrial and specialist environments.
Key responsibilities will include:- Producing accurate electrical schematics and hardware designs using EPlan or similar software
- Selecting suitable control and instrumentation hardware based on customer requirements
- Supporting electrical build, testing, commissioning, and fault-finding activities
- Assisting with on-site installation and commissioning across UK customer locations
- Producing technical documentation, test procedures, and commissioning packs
- Supporting design reviews and working closely with wider engineering teams
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant safety and industry standards
- Supporting technical quotations and proof-of-concept activities where required
We are keen to speak with candidates who possess:
- Experience designing electrical or electronic systems within an industrial or controls environment
- Previous experience using EPlan, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar packages
- Practical commissioning and electrical debugging experience
- Knowledge of PLC-based control systems
- Understanding of EMC principles and electrical design best practice
- Familiarity with CE / UKCA processes and relevant industry standards
- A proactive, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving abilities
Any experience within safety systems, ATEX environments, NI platforms, or PLC software modification would be highly advantageous.
