Travis Talent are proud to be recruiting on behalf of a leading manufacturing client in Barnsley who are looking to appoint an experienced Purchasing Manager. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established business in a pivotal role, managing the purchasing function and leading a small team. This position is office based and will involve occasional international travel.
The Role
- Lead, develop and support a team of two purchasing professionals.
- Manage a portfolio of global suppliers with a significant spend, ensuring quality, cost and delivery targets are consistently achieved.
- Negotiate robust, commercially secure contracts with new and existing suppliers.
- Develop and maintain a structured, stable and competitive supply base, driving continuous improvement and best practice.
- Support New Product Introduction projects through to implementation.
- Implement effective purchasing strategies, including cost-down initiatives and dual sourcing.
- Oversee supplier audits, performance reporting and development.
- Work closely with production, engineering, logistics and other departments to ensure seamless material supply.
About You
- At least 5 years experience in a senior purchasing, supply chain or commodity management role.
- A background in engineering or manufacturing environments (experience with steel, welded fabrications or machined components highly desirable).
- Strong negotiation and supplier management skills, with proven results in achieving cost savings and securing long-term partnerships.
- Excellent leadership ability, with experience managing and developing teams.
- Confidence working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with tight timescales.
- A willingness and ability to travel internationally when required.
- Ideally, membership of CIPS or equivalent professional qualification.
