BSS and TF Solutions, part of Travis Perkins plc, are now hiring for an exceptional Data Scientist to join our Commercial team and play a pivotal role in transforming our pricing intelligence and business performance. You'll be a trusted technical partner to Commercial, Sales and Branch teams, converting complex datasets into intuitive tools, clear visualisations and actionable strategies that directly protect and grow our margins.

The Opportunity: As our Data Scientist, reporting directly to the Head of Pricing (BSS & TF Solutions), you will support the core pricing function by using data science, statistical modelling and reporting to sharpen commercial decision-making. Working in a key individual contributor role, you will analyse large complex transaction datasets, build robust pricing guidance models and create user-friendly dashboards for non-technical commercial stakeholders. You will also champion modern analytical practices, utilising coding tools to accelerate testing, automation and iterative development within robust data governance standards.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Pricing Analytics & Modelling: Developing, maintaining and enhancing predictive models that power price guidance, margin performance, supplier support analysis, and cost to price pass through metrics.
  • Price Guidance & Quantile Analysis: Analysing transaction data, customer behaviour and product tiers to refine quantile based pricing structures and optimise price execution.
  • Statistical & Regression Analysis: Applying statistical methods and regression techniques to model commercial relationships, uncover margin trends and evaluate pricing strategies.
  • Dashboard & Visualisation Development: Building clear, interactive and automated analytical outputs for commercial stakeholders using tools such as Looker Studio, Google Sheets, Power BI, or Tableau.
  • AI-Assisted Coding & Automation: Leveraging AI tools (preferably Gemini) to streamline coding workflows, automate testing, maintain documentation and speed up analytical iterations.
  • Commercial Insights & Recommendations: Translating complex mathematical and statistical findings into practical, commercially grounded advice for Branch, Sales and Finance teams.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Validating, reconciling and auditing pricing data across core systems to safeguard data integrity and ensure highly dependable commercial decisions.
  • Supplier Support & Rebate Analysis: Analysing cost changes, rebate structures, and vendor support data to drive superior gross margin outcomes.

About You: You'll be a curious, careful, and collaborative analytical practitioner who balances statistical rigour with fast paced commercial delivery.

Essential:

  • Degree level qualification in Data, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, Operational Research, Engineering, or a similar quantitative discipline.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and practical Python coding capabilities.
  • Proven capability in using AI tools (Gemini preferred) to speed up code development, debugging and testing.
  • Demonstrated experience in regression analysis, quantile analysis and managing complex structured datasets.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical teams.
  • Advanced spreadsheet capability alongside an understanding of data quality, validation and governance standards.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to manage tasks independently, work through ambiguity and comfortably challenge assumptions when the data does not support them.

We'd Particularly Like to See:

  • Master's degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in a quantitative discipline.
  • Prior experience within a pricing, finance, commercial, merchanting, retail, or B2B distribution environment.
  • Hands-on experience developing dashboards in Looker Studio, Power BI, or Tableau, alongside experience with GCP, BigQuery, or automated data pipelines.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques, clustering algorithms, LFL metrics and rebate/margin bridge analysis.

Why Join Us? This is a highly visible technical role with direct impact across BSS and TF Solutions. You'll have the opportunity to shape and modernise commercial decision making across two leading industry brands. Partner directly with Commercial Directors, Pricing Heads and operational leadership. See the direct financial result of your mathematical and analytical models on group performance. Develop your career within BSS and the wider Travis Perkins Group network.

Ready to Make an Impact? If you're an ambitious data scientist looking for a role that combines technical depth, commercial strategy and modern technology, we'd love to hear from you.
