Who we are
Travis Perkins is part of Travis Perkins plc and the UK’s largest supplier of building materials to the building and construction industry. With a network of over 500 branches, we supply thousands of products and materials, including a tool hire service, to trade professionals and self-builders across the nation. We offer a wide range of quality timber, building materials, kitchens, plumbing and heating, landscaping, painting and decorating essentials and tools for the job – we do what matters for the trade.
What you’ll be doing
This is your opportunity to be enrolled on our industry‑leading apprenticeship development scheme, giving you a foundation for a successful career with the largest distributor of building materials in the UK. During the 30‑month programme you will work while completing bespoke training. You’ll gain a deep understanding of our operations, moving through all areas of a branch and then into management development, equipping you with the skills to lead a team. You’ll play a pivotal role in the yard, serving and selling to customers on the counter, answering the phone and responding to emails, manning the Benchmarx area or the hire counter, and receiving and storing products – covering it all and earning customer appreciation.
In the first year we teach safety, the builders’ merchant industry, the market and our business strategy. In the second year you learn about leadership style and how to inspire a team. Your learning is on the job, with time set aside each week for coursework, and there’s no expectation to take work home. A dedicated apprenticeship coach will support you with 1:1 coaching, mentoring and technical and skills training. At the end of your training you will complete an endpoint assessment and, on successful completion, achieve an L2 Apprenticeship in year 1 and an L3 Apprenticeship in year 2.
