This role involves owning projects, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to business development while maintaining a strong focus on delivery and compliance.
Responsibilities
- Design, management and delivery of desk studies, site investigations, risk assessments, and remediation strategies.
- Undertake occasional supervision of ground investigations, earthworks and remediation.
- Prepare and check high-quality technical reports and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Provide sound technical input and advice on contaminated land, waste, materials management, groundwater, and ground gas risk assessments.
- Provide sound technical input and advice on geotechnical engineering matters including preliminary foundation optioneering, design calculations, earthworks and mining risk assessment, investigation and treatment.
- Check/approve laboratory scheduling.
- Effectively communicate with colleagues, subcontractors and clients.
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc/MSc in Environmental Science, Geology, Earth Sciences, Geotechnical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Typically 5–10 years’ experience in geo-environmental consultancy.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK contaminated land legislation and risk assessment frameworks (e.g., LCRM, BS10175, BS5930, CL:AIRE Definition of Waste Industry Code of Practice, Eurocode 7/ BS8004, NHBC Standards).
- Ability to manage and lead projects, with strong commercial awareness and ability to manage budgets and contribute to financial reporting.
- Excellent communication and report writing skills.
- Working towards or holding Chartered status (CGeol, CEnv, CSci) desirable.
- Fluency with Microsoft Office; GIS/CAD knowledge desirable.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel/stay away overnight on occasion.
