Some of the areas we specialise in include: a broad range of domestic and pan-European regulatory and compliance issues, including the impact of the regulatory regime on venture capital and private equity businesses; securities trading, clearance and settlement matters; new payment products and services, including e-money and digital platforms; a wide range of Fintech issues, including tokenisation, the regulation of cryptoassets and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in financial services; investment management and global custody services; wholesale and retail financial product development; the structuring, establishment and promotion of investment fund vehicles; market conduct issues; regulatory capital requirements; and discipline and enforcement issues.

The Role

You will be expected to provide paralegal support and report in the first instance to the FSM knowledge team – the Head of Financial Markets Research, the Director of Research and the two senior Knowledge Counsel. Beyond that, and on an ad hoc basis, you may also be expected to provide paralegal support to other lawyers within the FSM department. Ultimately you will be responsible to the partners within the FSM department. You will proactively contribute to the department and, ultimately, the firm\’s success by actively seeking to anticipate the needs of the FSM knowledge team and fee earning lawyers in the FSM team, in addition to having a full understanding of and supporting the crucial administrative processes that help the team function to the best of its ability.

You will be expected to take responsibility for a varied workload and to communicate effectively. As well as working directly with the department\’s lawyers, you will be working closely with various non-legal colleagues to ensure a seamless and collaborative support function is available and adds value to the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the filing of relevant know how and maintenance of the knowledge library in the document management system and on the FSMD intranet system (the Hub);
  • Managing, maintaining and updating the Hub;
  • Maintaining and updating of fee earners\’ hard-copy shelf top manuals and those maintained in dematerialised form on the Hub;
  • Assisting with proof-reading and cross-referencing exercises;
  • Assisting with specific ad hoc tasks such as simple pieces of research;
  • Monitoring know-how sources and updates on a daily basis and highlighting new developments and materials where relevant;
  • Assisting the FSM knowledge lawyers in their preparation for and presentation of Monthly Update sessions and the preparation of the associated internal Monthly Newsletters, including the compilation of a topics list for discussion and allocation at a weekly editorial meeting;
  • Assisting the FSM knowledge lawyers in the preparation for and presentation of other training sessions, including those to be presented by other lawyers within the department;
  • Assisting with the preparation of briefings and other articles for publication;
  • Other ad hoc administrative duties as and when necessary.

Personal Specification – Experience, Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Ability to assume responsibility for assigned projects and tasks.
  • Ability to handle confidential/sensitive matters.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments, shifting priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Flexibility to adjust hours to meet operating needs.
  • Law Degree / GDL.
  • LPC desirable.
