The Opportunity

The Lead Analytics Engineering is a team leadership role designed to transform our data capabilities into a value‑driving product engine. You will act as a "multiplier" – shielding your team from operational friction, fostering a culture of ownership, and ensuring that our data products are scalable, cost‑efficient, and strategically aligned with business goals.

As one of two Leads, you will co‑own our Analytics Engineering standards, ensuring a unified and streamlined AE experience across the entire department that allows our AEs to become a high‑performing team that delivers what the business needs to make better decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership & Enablement
    • Move the team to a "product‑thinking" approach. Ensure every model has a clear owner (individual or squad), defined SLAs, and documented business value.
    • Proactively identify and remove systemic bottlenecks in the development lifecycle to keep the team in a flow state.
    • Own our Looker visualisation environment and deliver the dashboard solutions that drive scalable decision making.
    • Review and create a framework/ user journey/ process that makes it easy for users to find the information they need quickly – including combining with other data information sources.
    • Design, develop, and maintain an efficient and scalable workflow environment using tools like dbt to transform raw data into clean, ready‑to‑use data models.
    • Partner with your peer AE Lead to maintain a single, unified Analytics Engineering standard. Ensure that an AE can move between teams seamlessly with consistent tooling, logic, and expectations.
  • Engineering Excellence & Governance
    • In collaboration with Data Engineering, co‑author and enforce high‑bar AE standards, including modularity, code principles and comprehensive testing that deliver high Data Quality.
    • Take ownership of the commercial impact of our code. Monitor Snowflake/ Looker resource consumption and mentor the team on writing cost‑efficient, performant SQL.
    • Work with the Data Product Partner team to implement business and technical ownership expectations and robust monitoring to move the team from reactive to proactive reliability.
  • People, Culture & Talent
    • Lead our AE hiring to attract and retain top‑tier AE talent, focusing on both technical mastery and commercial curiosity. Create/ update the job descriptions for the roles in your team.
    • Develop and execute career growth frameworks. Conduct high‑frequency open and honest feedback sessions and facilitate technical Guilds for continuous peer learning.
    • You are expected to perform code reviews and step in to tackle complex challenges alongside your team as well as providing IC support where necessary.
  • Planning & Value Attribution
    • Ensure that the team focuses on how to build things right, partnering closely with the Data Product Partner team, whose role focuses on defining what the right things to build are. Provide technical expertise to determine the effort involved and overall feasibility of proposed initiatives.
    • Translate business objectives into technical milestones. Focus on projects that move the company’s North Star metrics.
    • Act as a technical consultant to business leaders and the Data Product Partner team on projects.
