What Is the Opportunity? We’ve got an exciting opportunity for an experienced Marine Energy & Liability Underwriter to join our growing London Market team. In this role, you will take ownership of the profitability of your book – underwriting and processing new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments, while closely monitoring rate adequacy across your portfolio. You’ll work on a broad, diverse and developing Marine Liability account, using your London Market expertise to build and strengthen key broker relationships, shape the quality of the business we write, and play a visible part in the ongoing growth of our Marine platform. Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy.

What Will You Do?

  • Contribute to the overall profitability, growth and retention of the Line of Business line and consistency of all related underwriting initiatives.
  • Ensure that business is written in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures and controls (including audit requirements) at all times, and adheres to Lloyds Underwriting Management Standards.
  • Support the development of assigned Line of Business and services such as researching and identifying target business, competitor information, industry and economic factors across the business.
  • Utilise appropriate systems to accurately enter quotes, risks and endorsements, so as to ensure correct management, statistical and regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor market factors and world affairs as part of research and development of new opportunities.
  • Promote Travelers Line of Business, distribution strategy and philosophy and provide guidance on the Company's underwriting philosophy, procedures and requirements.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to others as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Experience within the Lloyd's market, with a basic understanding of the internal and external factors which impact the market.
  • Underwriting experience.
  • University Degree.
  • Able to demonstrate emerging technical proficiency and application of knowledge commensurate to your underwriting authority.
  • Able to make sound quoting and pricing decisions that are in the Company's best interests.
  • Intermediate knowledge and ability in respect of judgment, decision making, communication and strong teamwork.
  • Demonstrates Intermediate knowledge and experience in respect of Relationship Management.
  • Demonstrates Intermediate knowledge and experience in respect of Analytical Thinking/Financial Acumen.
  • Utilises understanding of finance and accounting principles to identify the impact of responsible underwriting decisions on the overall profitability of the business.
  • Expected to be studying towards ACII qualification.

What is a Must Have?

  • Previous Property and Casualty insurance experience in either an underwriting, operational or broker capacity.
  • Secondary level education or equivalent.
