What Is the Opportunity? We have a fantastic opportunity to join Travelers as part of a rapidly growing and profitable Cargo underwriting team. This is an exciting moment to come on board with the book already expanding and ambitions to grow further in the Lloyd’s and Company markets, as well as delegated authority. You’ll work closely with our Senior Cargo Underwriter, and the wider Fine Art & Specie team, to grow our lead market and niche specialty propositions. You’ll use your experience as a Cargo Underwriter or Broker to play a meaningful role in shaping the strategic direction of the book as it scales. What Will You Do?

  • Support the overall profitability, growth and retention of the Line of Business line and consistency of all related underwriting initiatives.
  • Ensure that business is written in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures and controls (including audit requirements) at all times, and adheres to Lloyds Underwriting Management Standards.
  • Support the development of assigned Line of Business and services such as researching and identifying target business, competitor information, industry and economic factors across the business.
  • Utilise appropriate systems to accurately enter quotes, risks and endorsements, ensuring correct management, statistical and regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor market factors and world affairs as part of research and development of new opportunities.
  • Promote Travelers Line of Business, distribution strategy and philosophy and provide guidance on the Company's underwriting philosophy, procedures and requirements by building strong partnerships with Agents, Brokers and Customers.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to others as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Experience within the Lloyd's market, with a basic understanding of the internal and external factors which impact the market.
  • Strong underwriting experience.
  • Able to demonstrate emerging technical proficiency and application of knowledge commensurate to your underwriting authority.
  • Able to make sound quoting and pricing decisions that are in the Company's best interests.
  • Intermediate knowledge and ability in respect of judgment, decision making, communication and strong teamwork.
  • Demonstrates Intermediate knowledge and experience in respect of Relationship Management.
  • Demonstrates Intermediate knowledge and experience in respect of Analytical Thinking/Financial Acumen.
  • Utilises understanding of finance and accounting principles to identify the impact of responsible underwriting decisions on the overall profitability of the business.
  • Expected to be studying towards ACII qualification.

What is a Must Have?

  • Previous Property and Casualty insurance experience in either an underwriting, operational or broker capacity.
  • Secondary level education or equivalent.
