Position Overview
Join Travelers’ rapidly growing and profitable Cargo underwriting team in Europe, expanding the book in Lloyd’s and company markets and delegated authority. Work closely with the Senior Cargo Underwriter and the Fine Art & Specie team to grow our lead market and niche specialty propositions.
What Will You Do?
- Support the overall profitability, growth and retention of the line of business and all related underwriting initiatives.
- Ensure business is written in accordance with the Company’s policies, procedures, controls (including audit requirements) and Lloyds Underwriting Management Standards, and that it is accepted only with appropriate underwriting authority or approval.
- Support the development of the assigned line of business and services: research and identify target business, competitor information, industry and economic factors.
- Utilize appropriate systems to accurately enter quotes, risks and endorsements for correct management, statistical and regulatory reporting.
- Gather data and prepare reports to support execution of corporate and business underwriting policies and standards.
- Monitor market factors and world affairs as part of research and development of new opportunities.
- Promote Travelers’ line of business, distribution strategy and philosophy, and provide guidance to agents, brokers and customers on the Company’s underwriting philosophy, procedures and requirements.
- Provide guidance, mentoring and coaching to others as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Experience within the Lloyd’s market with a basic understanding of the internal and external factors that impact the market.
- Strong underwriting experience and ability to demonstrate emerging technical proficiency and application of knowledge commensurate with underwriting authority.
- Ability to make sound quoting and pricing decisions in the Company’s best interests.
- Intermediate knowledge and ability in judgment, decision making, communication and teamwork.
- Demonstrated experience in relationship management: seeking, building, fostering and maintaining productive relationships to meet goals.
- Intermediate analytical thinking/financial acumen: identifying causes, exploring alternatives and applying finance and accounting principles to assess underwriting impact on profitability.
- Intermediate technical knowledge and product expertise commensurate with underwriting authority.
- Business perspective: using knowledge of internal and external factors that impact the Lloyd’s Market to make decisions.
- Expected to be studying toward ACII qualification.
Must Have
- Previous Property and Casualty insurance experience in underwriting, operational or broker capacity.
- Secondary level education or equivalent.
