We’re partnering with an innovative and growing technology business looking to appoint a Head of Engineering to lead its software delivery, architecture and engineering operations. This is a pivotal leadership role for someone who can combine strong technical depth with commercial awareness, people leadership and a passion for building scalable, modern products.

You’ll take ownership of engineering performance across delivery, quality and technical standards, while helping shape the next phase of platform evolution. This includes modernising legacy systems, driving adoption of modern technologies and embedding AI-led efficiencies into both internal engineering workflows and customer-facing products.

Reporting directly to the senior leadership team, you will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams spanning Frontend, Backend, QA and DevOps. You’ll ensure product priorities are translated into reliable delivery outcomes, with clear planning, strong governance, and a culture of accountability.

You’ll also play a key role in architectural transformation, supporting the move from legacy applications into a modern cloud-native environment using technologies such as Node.js, React, AWS and serverless architectures. Alongside this, you’ll champion the practical use of AI to improve engineering productivity, testing, automation, and end-user experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing engineering function across multiple disciplines
  • Own engineering delivery, release quality and technical execution
  • Drive platform modernisation and migration from legacy systems to modern architectures
  • Build scalable, modular, service-oriented systems and technical standards
  • Oversee DevOps, infrastructure reliability, monitoring and release processes
  • Foster strong collaboration across Product, Commercial, Customer Success and Operations
  • Manage distributed, hybrid, nearshore and offshore engineering teams effectively
  • Introduce AI-driven tools and processes across engineering workflows
  • Ensure robust cybersecurity, compliance and secure development practices
  • Report regularly on delivery performance, quality, and engineering KPIs to leadership

We’re looking for an experienced engineering leader who can inspire teams while remaining hands-on enough to guide technical direction and delivery excellence. You’ll likely bring:

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a SaaS or product-led environment
  • Strong technical background with modern web technologies (Node.js, React, AWS, serverless)
  • Experience in modernising legacy systems and driving architectural change
  • Strong knowledge of Agile delivery, CI/CD, DevOps and QA best practices
  • Ability to balance speed of delivery with technical quality and business priorities
  • Experience managing hybrid and distributed teams
  • Understanding of AI/ML trends and practical business applications
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity, compliance and secure software practices
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

Compensation: Up to £140K base salary. Remote/Hybrid working - averaging a couple of days in the Central London office (no set days). Private medical. Pension. Part of the Senior Leadership Team.

This is an opportunity to shape the engineering future of a scaling technology business with real autonomy and visibility. You’ll work closely with leadership, influence product direction and build a modern engineering organisation capable of supporting ambitious growth plans.

If you’re an engineering leader who enjoys transformation, building teams and delivering high-quality products at pace, we’d love to hear from you.
