Our client is seeking a proactive and commercially aware Transport Operations Co-ordinator to be responsible for coordinating transport solutions on behalf of their customers, who book hauliers through their network. As a key link between customers, hauliers and internal departments you will ensure transport is secured at competitive rates, delivered on time and that any issues are resolved quickly and professionally. This role requires strong problem-solving skills, negotiation ability and the confidence to manage external partners effectively. This is a full-time office-based role working Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00.
Key Responsibilities of the Transport Operations Co-ordinator
- Coordinate and book transport with approved hauliers in line with customer requirements.
- Source the most cost-effective and reliable transport solutions while maintaining service standards.
- Liaise closely with customers regarding transport bookings, collections and deliveries.
- Work alongside the Forwarding department to arrange inbound and outbound transport, including port collections and international movements.
- Monitor daily transport activity to ensure on-time performance.
- Act as the primary point of contact for hauliers regarding bookings, scheduling and operational queries.
- Proactively manage delays, missed collections, vehicle breakdowns and service failures.
- Escalate and resolve issues to minimise disruption to warehouse operations and customer deliveries.
- Maintain strong working relationships with approved hauliers and negotiate rates where required.
- Ensure hauliers meet compliance standards, documentation requirements, and agreed service levels.
- Obtain competitive transport quotations and support rate benchmarking.
- Review and approve transport invoices against agreed rates.
- Maintain accurate records within our warehouse management system.
- Track and report KPIs including service levels, cost control and haulier performance.
- Identify cost-saving and service improvement opportunities.
Skills, Education and Experience required
- Minimum 3 years' experience in transport or logistics coordination.
- Experience working within a 3PL or third-party logistics environment.
- Experience dealing with third-party hauliers and transport procurement.
- Knowledge of import/export transport processes and documentation (preferred).
- Strong understanding of UK/EU transport operations.
- Commercial awareness and confidence negotiating rates.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to manage high-pressure situations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to manage customers and external partners professionally.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in WMS systems and Microsoft Excel.
