Our In‑house Design Team delivers multidiscipline design solutions and technical support to the Trant business and external clients. We primarily work in the water sector, undertaking projects in water and wastewater treatment, water storage and distribution and flood defence, as well as some works within the energy, renewables and data centre sectors. Projects typically range in value from £1m to £10m.
Reporting to the EICA Design Manager, duties include but are not limited to:
- Interpret, understand & challenge project requirements from Client documents (drawings, specifications, correspondence, etc.)
- Work with the Estimating Team, assisting and offering advice during tender preparations, with responsibility for the provision of EICA design input required to support bid submissions
- Support the IDS EICA design team with the technical delivery of projects, acting as a subject matter expert across all stages of the design development process, and taking responsibility for the technical approval of EICA design deliverables
- Undertake technical bid evaluations and subcontractor design reviews
- Provide technical assistance to Project Delivery Teams during the installation and commissioning phases of projects
- Investigate value engineering and value creation opportunities
- Identify and elevate all instances of design change
- Work with the Electrical Design Manager to monitor design effort against estimates / programmes
- Undertake/facilitate formal design reviews throughout the project lifecycle as defined within Trant procedures
- Regularly review design delivery strategies, in collaboration with the Head of Discipline
- Provide quality assurance through supervision, evaluation, and review of team outputs, ensuring all designs comply with relevant Client & UK water industry standards, regulations and Company QA processes
- Present and defend engineering solutions to complex problems in a client/stakeholder facing environment
- Proactively drive a H&S focus throughout the design process and subsequent delivery phase, instigating development of design risk assessments to address risks identified during review activities
- Identify new products/technologies/innovations to enhance our Engineering offering and reduce costs
- Represent Trant at local and national engineering institution conferences and meetings.
Qualifications/background/skills:
- This role is suited to technically strong individuals with a background in EICA engineering in the water industry or in other closely related industries.
- BTEC/HNC/HND/BEng qualification in an EICA Engineering discipline, or equivalent experience
- A history of working within a team of multi‑disciplined design engineers for a contractor or consultant
- Previous experience working in a water/wastewater design environment
- A thorough awareness of the commercial factors applicable to design and project delivery
- A keen eye for detail with the ability to identify technical issues in the early stages of the project lifecycle
- Broad knowledge of industry standards, legislation, and engineering principles
