With over 1,000 employees and a £150m turnover, we’re growing—and now looking for experienced Civils Operatives to play a key role in our project delivery teams on our clean water site near Brede in East Sussex.

The Role

You will be working at our Brede site in East Sussex and as a Civils Operative you’ll be assisting site teams with general civils construction operations, hand digging around complex services, drainage, pipe laying, concrete, maintaining site cleanliness, transporting materials, and ensuring compliance with health & safety standards. Applications are welcome from skilled groundworkers and machine drivers (360 / dumper) who are interested to join us on a long term basis.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Technical Responsibilities - Site Operations
    • General civils construction operations.
    • Drainage, pipe laying, concrete.
    • Hand digging around complex services.
    • Promotion of safety within safety critical environment.
    • Holding permits to work, etc.
  • Safety, Health, Environment and Quality
    • Follow all site health, safety, and environmental regulations.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
    • Report hazards, unsafe conditions, and near-misses to supervisors.
    • Participate in toolbox talks, site briefings, and site inductions.
    • Assist in maintaining site standards, cleanliness, and organisation.
    • Identify obvious defects or issues and report them to supervisors.
    • Report any incidents, near-misses, or safety concerns to Ganger or Site Engineer.
  • Stakeholder Communication
    • Work under the supervision of the Ganger, Supervisor or Site Manager.
    • Communicate effectively with colleagues and report issues promptly.
    • Support the team to meet daily targets and maintain site efficiency.

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential
    • CSCS Card
    • Applicants will need to be reliable and responsible with a good awareness of health and safety in the workplace and a strong work ethic.
    • Applicants must have the existing right to work in the UK, as we are unable to provide sponsorship for this role.
  • Desirable
    • CPCS / NPORS 360 above / below 10 tonne.
    • CPCS / NPORS Dumper & Roller.
    • NVQ Level 2 Civil Engineering / Construction / Groundworks.
    • Confined Space Awareness.
    • EUSR Water Hygiene.
    • Previous experience in a relevant construction operational role (3+ Years).
