We are looking for a motivated Civil Engineering Apprentice / Trainee Engineer to join our site-based engineering team at Fawley Oil Refinery in Southampton. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in civil engineering within a major industrial environment while working towards a recognised qualification.
Under the guidance of experienced civil engineers, you will learn how civil engineering supports the safe operation, maintenance, and development of refinery infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Assist with civil engineering inspections of structures, foundations, pavements, drainage, and access ways
- Support maintenance and minor works projects across the refinery site
- Help collect site data, measurements, and condition assessments
- Assist with the preparation of drawings, reports, schedules, and work packs
- Observe and support contractors during civil works and site activities
- Learn how to read and interpret civil and structural drawings
- Support compliance with engineering standards, specifications, and site procedures
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental requirements at all times
Applicant should have:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English (Grades 4β9 or equivalent)
- Interest in Civil Engineering and construction within an industrial environment
- Willingness to learn and work safely on a large operational site
Further qualifications (e.g A-levels, BTEC, or equivalent in Construction, Engineering, or Mathematics) and/or previous work experience, placement, or site exposure in a civil engineering environment would be a bonus.
This role is based on a safety critical industrial site. A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards is essential. Full safety training and PPE will be provided.
