We are currently recruiting for a Safety, Health & Environment Apprentice to join the Safety, Health, Environmental, Quality & Training team (SHEQ & T). The apprentice will report to the SHEQ Lead and will be responsible for assisting the team in overseeing the quality of Safety, Health, Environmental & Quality. The role is based at Head Office in Southampton.
The Safety, Health and Environment Apprentice job will typically involve assisting experienced professionals in maintaining a safe working environment. This includes supporting with risk assessments, inspections, and training, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures. Apprentices will learn to identify hazards, investigate accidents, and maintain records while gaining hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge. This apprenticeship will involve spending 80% learning on the job by getting hands-on experience, and 20% attending college and studying.
You will be responsible for supporting with the following:
- Maintaining, updating, and creating standard operating procedures and assist in the implementation of continuous improvement safety projects
- Regular reviews of risk assessments for work equipment and operations
- Ensuring all accidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements are followed through
- Conducting health and safety inspections, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, area inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities
- Managing and delivering SHE training
- Assisting in carrying out site safety audits in CDM areas
- Creating & delivering health & safety campaigns
In addition, as an apprentice you will be required to:
- Ensure your apprenticeship course material is completed on time and attend all sessions at the agreed intervals
- Attend additional training where required
- Perform any other duties deemed necessary to meet the apprenticeship standard and improve your skills and knowledge
- Keeping Updated on Regulations: Staying informed about changes in health and safety legislation and best practices
Qualifications: GSCE English and Maths - Grade 4 and above minimum

Learning and Development:
- On-the-job training: Gaining practical experience under the guidance of a qualified health and safety professional
- Formal training: Completing relevant qualification, NVQ Level 3 in Safety, Health & Environment which will allow the individual to achieve technical membership of IOSH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)
- Mentorship: Receiving guidance and support from experienced colleagues
