Due to continued successes and targeted growth, we are now recruiting for a Pre-Construction Design Manager to join our talented teams, working closely with both the bid and design teams. The Pre-Construction Design Manager will have a background in both multi-discipline design engineering and pre-construction and as well as having a passion for engineering. This Pre-Construction Design Manager is a new role within Trant Engineering and is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and ambitious team and to further grow and develop your career.
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Estimating team in securing and coordinating input from design consultants at tender stage and PQQ stage where necessary
- Evaluating and discussing in-house design capacity and capabilities with the Engineering Manager
- Forming and ensuring the success of strategic partnerships with design consultants in accordance with company procurement procedures
- Interrogation of ITT/RFQ documentation and preparation of design focused packages to facilitate the engagement/coordination of any external technical support required during tender preparations. Subsequent liaison with other internal departments, culminating with involvement in the production of Technical Proposal documents
- Review of Consultant/Subcontractor design and fee proposals
- Investigation of value engineering and value creation opportunities
- Participation in commercial and technical reviews throughout the tender cycle
- Working to develop and maintain relationships with Trant’s design partners, and facilitating their engagement and input as required ahead of subcontract award
- Working with the procurement team to define quality control, programming, reporting requirements are adequately defined for our external design partners
- Responsible for the development of company procedures governing the engagement of design consultants
- Contributing to the successful development of our client relationships
- Identifying opportunities for new projects and work sectors
- Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement of the design delivery process
- Travel periodically throughout the UK and to Consultants’ offices as required
Key Skills and Background:
The following skills and/or experience is considered essential for this role:
- A history of managing a team of multi-disciplined design engineers, either within a contractor or consultants
- Previous experience working in a water/wastewater design environment
- A thorough awareness of the commercial factors applicable to tendering & the design delivery process
- A keen eye for detail with the ability to identify technical issues in the early stages of the project lifecycle
- A good working knowledge of BIM/Digital Delivery processes
- Proven ability to communicate effectively, and work in collaboration with other team members
Desired Qualifications/Skills:
- Chartered membership of a relevant professional institution is desirable
- BEng in relevant engineering discipline (civil, mechanical electrical) is essential
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential
- Full driving licence is essential
