Trant Engineering are working on water treatment upgrade projects across the Somerset, Wiltshire and Dorset regions. We are currently looking for a proven Mechanical Supervisor to join our team, working initially on a project just north of Cheddar.
The role involves hands-on working as well as supervising mechanical teams, coordinating with other trades, ensuring compliance with project specifications, monitoring health & safety, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring timely completion of mechanical works.
Key Responsibilities- Team Supervision & Coordination
- Lead and manage a team of mechanical operatives and subcontractors.
- Allocate work according to skills, project schedules, and priorities.
- Monitor team performance, productivity, and adherence to quality standards.
- Mentor and support less experienced mechanical staff.
- Project Execution & Mechanical Works
- Supervise mechanical installations, including pumps, valves, pipework and other process equipment.
- Ensure mechanical work aligns with engineering drawings, specifications, and project plans.
- Coordinate mechanical activities with civil and electrical teams to prevent conflicts and delays.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce strict adherence to site health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct and supervise risk assessments, toolbox talks, and HSE briefings for the mechanical team.
- Ensure safe operation of tools, plant, and machinery, including lifting equipment.
- Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Inspect mechanical work to ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Identify defects or issues and ensure corrective action is taken promptly.
- Review drawings, specifications, and test procedures to ensure accurate installation and operation.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of daily work, team attendance, materials used, and plant/equipment deployment.
- Document HSE incidents, near-misses, and quality checks.
- Prepare progress reports and mechanical completion documentation for the Project Manager or Client.
- Ensure all documentation is compliant with project and regulatory requirements.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Liaise with Site Managers and other trades.
- Communicate daily progress, resource requirements, and challenges to senior management.
- Ensure effective collaboration with subcontractors and suppliers.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise- Essential: CSCS Card, SSSTS, Proven hands-on mechanical experience
- Desirable: HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, or Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, C&G Medium risk confined space
