The Graduate Site Electrical Engineer will support the delivery of electrical engineering activities on municipal, industrial process, and water projects across the UK. This is a hands-on, development-focused role designed to provide exposure to site installation, commissioning, and maintenance activities while building practical experience under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Responsibilities:
    • Assist with the installation of LV systems, lighting, power distribution, and control equipment.
    • Support the supervision of subcontractors and site electricians, ensuring adherence to drawings and specifications.
    • Assist senior engineers with the commissioning and testing of electrical systems and equipment.
    • Learn to perform functional tests and record results accurately.
    • Support troubleshooting and minor fault-finding activities under guidance.
    • Assist with preventative maintenance activities and understand operational requirements of installed systems.
    • Gain practical experience in interpreting design documents and schematics.
  • Health, Safety & Compliance:
    • Learn and adhere to health, safety, and environmental procedures on site.
    • Assist in conducting risk assessments and following safe work practices.
    • Ensure electrical works are compliant with UK standards (BS7671/IET Wiring Regulations).
    • Help prepare commissioning reports, test certificates, and other documentation.
  • Stakeholder Support:
    • Support the project team with site documentation, including as-built drawings, cable schedules, and inspection reports.
    • Attend site meetings, taking notes and reporting progress to senior engineers.
    • Develop understanding of site workflows and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Professional Development:
    • Develop practical understanding of electrical engineering under the guidance of Senior Site Electrical Engineers.
    • Work towards professional development objectives aligned to ICE, or similar institutions.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree, HNC, or HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of BS7671 (IET Wiring Regulations) and relevant health & safety regulations.
  • Working toward or eligible for IEng/CEng registration.
  • Internship, placement, or project work providing hands-on site or lab electrical experience.
  • Assisting in LV system installations, wiring, or control panel commissioning.
  • Experience adhering to safe working practices and following risk assessments on site or during projects.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams or assisting engineers on collaborative projects.

Desirable:

  • NEBOSH, IOSH, or CDM awareness training.
  • Foundation knowledge of project management principles, e.g., PRINCE2 Foundation.
  • Participation in projects related to water treatment, pumping stations, or industrial process facilities.
  • Experience preparing drawings, reports, or technical documentation during projects or placements.
  • Exposure to working on live construction sites or assisting with contractors under supervision.
