Discovery is an Intensive Intervention Risk Management Service (IIRMS) covering West and South Yorkshire. This innovative team is part of the wider Offender Personality Disorder Service; a joint initiative between the NHS and His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), supporting individuals under probation supervision who present with complex personality difficulties, often linked to early trauma and offending behaviour. We are seeking an enthusiastic Assistant Psychologist to join Discovery's multidisciplinary team of probation staff, NHS professionals and housing support workers, to guide our service users in making the challenging transition from custody to community living.

The Discovery service covers a large region of Yorkshire, and the role involves some travel to various probation offices, probation approved premises and community locations to meet service users for direct work. Whilst being a car driver is not essential, it would be advantageous in this respect. It should be noted that, whilst the named base is St Mary's Hospital, the candidate is not required to travel here as such; the regular (at least once weekly) meeting place for the Discovery team is Leeds Probation Office in the city centre.

Responsibilities
  • As a Band 4 Assistant Psychologist, you will be responsible for helping the team deliver trauma-informed psychological assessments, formulations, and interventions to high-risk individuals.
  • You will work across community settings, including probation offices and Approved Premises, assisting the senior staff in providing psychologically-led case management and psychoeducational interventions.
  • You will offer administration support to the team, taking a lead on coordinating clinical review meetings and assembling psychometric data for evaluation and audit.
  • You will be expected to complete formulations and engage in direct clinical work with service users, under the supervision of qualified staff.
  • The role involves close collaboration with NHS and criminal justice colleagues in respect of contributing to service development, audit, and research across the wider Offender Personality Disorder Service.

  • Assistants Psychologist role at Band 4 level with responsibilities for trauma-informed assessments, formulations, and interventions.
  • Work across community settings and probation offices; travel to various locations may be required.
  • Engage in direct clinical work with service users under supervision and contribute to service development and evaluation.
  • Provide administrative support, coordinate clinical review meetings, and prepare data for audits.
