Transport UK London Bus is seeking experienced and motivated individuals to join our growing London Rail Replacement team as a Rail Replacement Controller. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering safe, reliable and customer-focused rail replacement operations across the London network.
As a Rail Replacement Controller, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day management of rail replacement services, ensuring services operate efficiently, safely and in line with requirements. This position is offered on a zero-hours contract basis. Due to the nature of rail replacement operations, shifts are allocated based on operational requirements and service demand, with work typically available during weekends, overnight and bank holidays.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor and manage rail replacement services in real time
- Maintain regular communication with drivers, supervisors, depots and management teams
- Ensure services operate to agreed headways and service frequencies
- Respond effectively to operational incidents, delays and disruptions
- Liaise with TfL, train operating companies and other stakeholders where required
- Record incidents and operational updates accurately
- Ensure all operational documentation and reporting is completed correctly
- Support roadside teams and assist with service regulation during periods of disruption
- Escalate operational issues appropriately in line with company procedures
- Use operational systems including tracking and communication platforms
- Strong understanding of rail replacement and bus operations
- Good geographical knowledge of London and surrounding areas
- Ability to regulate services effectively and maintain consistent headways
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities under pressure
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple operational issues simultaneously
- Competent IT skills including the use of operational and tracking systems
- Good understanding of health and safety responsibilities within transport operations
- Ability to produce accurate operational reports and incident records
- Professional and customer-focused approach at all times
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an operational team
- Flexible and adaptable approach to changing operational requirements
- The posts involve shift-working on a rota basis covering Middle and Late shift patterns
