Engineering Workshop Managers at Transport UK London Bus play a crucial role at the front line of delivering an efficient, safe and reliable bus network.
Full people management responsibilities for the engineering team and all workshop activities within the managed shift.
Ensuring and where applicable health and safety and environmental policies are upheld by vigilant monitoring and where shortcomings are identified relayed to the Fleet Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- An excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the safe operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
- Ensuring that all external contractors are managed efficiently and safely Report to the Fleet Manager any discrepancies found during the shift relating to ISO 9001 system or HS&E policy.
- Undertake through supervision, vehicle and staff quality inspections to confirm the standard of engineering maintenance work meets the Company/Engineering Policy standards ensuring a minimum of 10% of the fleet is audited each month and Action plans implemented where necessary that will promptly address problems highlighted.
- Ensure all reported defects for vehicles/buildings/plant etc. is resolved as efficiently and effectively as possible, with no effect to the service network, and vehicle safety.
- Monitor vehicle reliability and identify problems, ensuring successful remedial action is taken in order that service failure does not exceed the prescribed targets.
- Report to the Fleet Manager any deficiencies relating to company Workshop/Depot plant and equipment to ensure that they are adequately maintained and meet Company and Legal targets.
- Have a proactive attitude to non- compliance issues.
- Any other duties commensurate with the role.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- An excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the safe operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
- Level 3 qualifications in PSV maintenance and repair or level 2 qualifications with 5 years recent PSV workshop experience in maintenance and repair.
- Have a passion to lead by example while motivating and developing teams to achieve high standards of performance.
- Have current vehicle inspector IRTEC license or must pass within probationary period.
- Flexible approach to working hours.
- Be able to lead and motivate a team to produce high quality work.
- Be able to mentor and develop individuals.
- Able to communicate effectively with all levels of the business and work in a collaborative manner.
