To manage and develop Transport for Wales's (TfW) Environmental Management System, providing independent oversight of environmental performance and enabling continual improvement through evidence-led environmental management, audits, stakeholder engagement and management reviews.

Role responsibilities:

  • Manage, operate and continuously improve the TfW Environmental Management System (EMS) across all TfW-owned and managed locations, assets and activities, including stations, depots, offices and construction environments, by implementing governance processes such as audits and management reviews aligned to organisational priorities, to ensure compliance with Green Dragon Level 5 and/or ISO 14001 standards and drive continual improvement.
  • Define and annually review the scope of the EMS by applying professional judgement and leading assurance activities associated with the addition of new sites, assets and activities, to ensure the system captures all relevant operations and maintains readiness for certification.
  • Design, manage and deliver the internal environmental audit programme across operational and corporate functions, including high-risk and complex operational settings, by determining audit scope, methodology, frequency and prioritisation based on risk, organisational change and system maturity, to assess system effectiveness, ensure compliance and support continual environmental performance.
  • Lead the coordination and delivery of annual external EMS audits, including Green Dragon Level 5 and ISO-aligned activities, by acting as the primary organisational representative, managing audit logistics and coordinating evidence collection and submission, to ensure timely and effective responses to audit findings and improvement actions.

Who we're looking for:

  • A degree or equivalent professional qualification in environmental management, sustainability, or a related discipline.
  • ISEP recognised Environmental Management System Internal Auditor certification (or equivalent) with demonstrable experience of applying audit principles in practice.
  • Demonstrable experience of operating, maintaining or assuring an Environmental Management System (ISO 14001, Green Dragon or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance requirements in Wales and England.
