This is a hybrid role, however there is there is the expectation of attending the Llys Cadwyn (Pontypridd) office 2-3 days per week.

Role responsibilities

Development operations (DevOps) engineers are responsible for the development and operation of our cloud environment through tools, environments and practices.

In this role, you will be responsible for underpinning good development processes including managing tools and testing environments, central code control, maintaining development standards and writing code that automates our cloud environment.

  • Build and maintain public cloud infrastructure using a mix of IaaS and PaaS resources, deployed via Infrastructure as Code (built in terraform) to deliver a secure, scalable cloud platform in line with TfW’s Cloud Principles.
  • Support senior engineers to implement changes to build and release pipelines using Azure DevOps in line with TfW’s CI/CD principles to ensure that deployment strategies for resources are repeatable, secure, and highly available.
  • Act as an escalation point to junior engineers by providing specialist guidance and advice through detailed debugging and analysis to enable the timely resolution of complex service impacting issues.
  • Manage integrations between hosting platforms and applications by working with the security teams accounting for Azure networking design, security configuration, and management, to ensure platform security is maintained.

Who we’re looking for

  • Technical Expertise: Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining complex public cloud services, with an understanding of Microsoft cloud and DevOps technologies, including experience in one or more of: (choose one)
  • DevOps Practices: Experience of Build and Release Management, code repositories and version control systems.
  • Stakeholder Management: Proven ability to communicate technical subject matter to a non-technical audience.

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.

Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language by employees and will encourage them to develop, improve and maintain their Welsh Language skills. We fully support our people who want to improve their Welsh language skills, and personal development for Welsh Language skills are offered in a variety of ways such as online learning, classroom courses and funding attendance at local community courses.
