Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

Successful candidates must have the right to work in the UK for the duration of the scheme, as at the start date. This role is not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa scheme. If you do not have the right to work in the UK, or only have a right to work here for a limited time which is lesser than the duration of the scheme, you should be aware that TfL will be unable to sponsor you for this role.

The Project & Programmes Graduate scheme will provide you the opportunity to work across multiple areas in TfL and be involved in some of the UKs most exciting and high-profile programmes and projects, that improve the experience of customers across London. The scheme will cover PMO (including Planning & Risk management), Project Management, Sponsorship, Construction Management and potentially Project Engineering and Graduates who complete the scheme will have the opportunity to go into a role in any of those areas and enjoy a career directly contributing to keeping London moving.
What will I be doing?
As a graduate, your two-year development programme will be made up of up to four placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career.
We also understand that everyone’s career is different, so every graduate’s journey is unique. Here’s an idea of what yours could look like:
Placement 1 – Planning Assistant /Risk Assistant– 6 months – working in a team responsible for the project planning or Risk Management for multiple Projects & Programmes across Capital Delivery and Asset Performance & Capital Delivery
Placement 2 – Assistant Project Manager – 6 months – working in a project team in TfL Capital you will be responsible for all aspects of managing a project including scope, governance and resource management. The actual responsibilities will be dependent on the stage and details of the project.
Placement 3 – Construction – 6 months – gaining experience of managing construction projects in TfL Capital and having responsibility for several aspects of these projects including stakeholder management and quality assurance.
Placement 4 – Sponsorship – working in an area to learn about business cases and project initiation and the role of a Sponsor.
There is a lot of flexibility for graduates to choose their own placements and tailor the scheme to your own development ambitions.

Sustainability is intrinsic to TfL’s work ethos, and we ensure that we operate in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world.
Where can this career take me? - Graduates who complete this scheme progress to a variety of roles, examples include:
- Assistant Project Manager,
- Project Controls Assistant,
- Planning Assistant,
- Assistant Risk Manager,
- Assistant Construction Manager,
- Project Sponsor.
In the longer-term, Graduates who complete this scheme have progressed to senior leadership roles. For example: - Senior Programme Manager,
- Senior Construction Manager,
- Professional Manager-Project Controls/Planning.
What training and support will you get?
Our award-winning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of on-the-job practical experience and placements. We’ll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking.
You’ll also receive one-to-one guidance throughout the programme from your:
- Placement manager: Responsible for your day-to-day management and support with your development
- Scheme sponsor: A senior manager who acts as a technical and professional adviser and has line manager responsibility
- Buddy: Usually an apprentice or graduate who gives support to you and ensure that you feel welcomed in the organisation
- Development adviser: Supports your professional development through providing career coaching and career progression at TfL

The application process consists of 5 steps, including online assessments which will need to be completed within an allocated time frame. We highly recommend that you read through this document thoroughly so that you can familiarise yourself with the process.

If you already hold your qualification certificates, please upload copies of these to your application. If you are due to sit final exams or need to replace any certificates, these must be provided at a later stage.
You will receive information and guidance around each assessment stage as you progress through your application.
Please pay close attention to emails and deadlines provided noting you have 1 week to complete online assessments and we cannot re-issue these tests once the deadline passes.
Assessment centres for graduates and intern roles will take place from December-January, please note that many roles only have 1 assessment day and we are unable to guarantee alternative dates. We are conducting assessment centres in person and virtually (role dependent).
