Location: Covent Garden, London with expectation to travel across LU network

Shifts: This role works a FIXED SHIFT PATTERN: 2 weeks of day shifts, followed by 1 week of night shifts. Hours for nights 2300-0700 Sunday to Thursday and Hours for days 0800-1600 Monday to Friday.

Overview of project/role:

London Underground is one of the worlds most famous metro systems and is responsible for more than 5 million passenger journeys a day. It has 11 lines covering 402km and serving 272 stations. During peak hours, more than 500 trains are in operation.

Our HV Power section are looking for experienced Electrical Control Technicians to fill the position of Test Room Inspector (TRI). Reporting to the Control Systems Engineer, TRIs are responsible for ensuring that the HV Power SCADA control system is available for the safe operation of the London Underground power network. Activities will involve maintenance and repair of current systems as well as assisting with installation and commissioning of new equipment. You will be expected to comply with all relevant industry standards and legislation, ensuring that all activities carried out are within a safe system of work. This role requires effective collaborative work as part of the wider team involved in the maintenance, operating, servicing and repair of power distribution equipment.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Manage and undertake the maintenance, repair, and operation of all London Underground Control Systems assets, intelligent devices and auxiliary controls.
  • Responsibility for control system devices, plant control schemes and measuring devices on site, including electronic and microprocessor-based instruments.
  • Understanding of a wide range of industrial communication protocols, including IEC61850 and IEC60870.
  • Assist in the upgrade and commissioning of control systems equipment and intelligent devices.
  • Acceptance testing of new and transposed equipment, decommissioning, modification, and additions to existing systems.
  • Maintenance and testing of communication network assets such as switches, Fibre transceivers, modems and pilot wire.
  • Checking and updating of schematic drawings/schedules pertaining to control systems equipment and intelligent devices.
  • Fault finding on control systems equipment, including the interrogation, retrieval, and analysis of fault logs.
  • Prepare reports detailing the corrective action taken and necessary recommendations.
  • The installation and use of specialised monitoring equipment for the purposes of fault investigations, power quality, harmonic studies to assist LU as required.
  • To ensure all documentation is accurate.
  • Isolating and making safe of low voltage electrical equipment for the purpose of carrying out work.

This is a safety critical role so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.
