Transport for London
Quick overview
Our city. Made better by you.
Transport for London (TfL) are responsible for the day-to-day operation of London’s public transport network and manage London’s main roads.
Connecting people, communities, places and opportunities, millions of people rely on our networks for business, leisure and everyday life. But we do much more than simply getting people from A to B. And we do more than tubes and trains.
We’re responsible for the roads and bridges that weave across the city. For the buildings, developments and infrastructure that inhabit the streets. It’s these areas, the ones operating behind the scenes, that help keep London moving.
What is our mission?
Sustainability:
Sustainability is core to our purpose. We are committed to achieving the Mayor’s goal of making London carbon neutral by 2030 and support a green recovery and better future for the capital. We want to do right by our customers and colleagues by continuing to protect and regenerate the environment.
In 2024 the Carbon Literacy Project named us as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation and gave us a Catalyst Award for our level of ambition and achievement as part of the Carbon Literacy Action Day during COP28. We’re one of only 3 organisations globally to receive this award.
We’re playing our part in creating a greener, more biodiverse and inclusive city that is better adapted to the changing climate.
Our green infrastructure includes trackside vegetation, wildflower verges, street trees and rain gardens. Our work to make these areas thrive benefits people living, working and exploring London, and wider society, as well as TfL itself.
What makes us special?
Diversity:
We are committed to promoting equality. We want to create an inclusive London that is open to all, where difference is celebrated and respected, and where everyone can thrive, regardless of their background. This is why we need talented people, reflecting the diverse city that we serve.
We believe that everyone deserves to reach their full potential. And we mean everyone. Whatever your background, whether you’re taking their first steps into work from school, or seeking a new career path, there’s an opportunity here for everyone.
Innovation
Innovation is at the heart of what we do at TfL. From business planning to front-line operations, we aim to create an environment where people have the support and resources to innovate where they see a need for change.
We are investing billions to transform the Capital’s network, becoming a world-leading smart city that’s hyper-connected and responsive.
