We are looking for an exceptional candidate who can successfully support the technical delivery of a complex New Trains programme into the next decade, driving forward and promoting the needs of the TransPennine Route Upgrade and the wider future of TransPennine Express. The role will be at the forefront of building and sustaining effective relationships with industry partners, ensuring that they deliver excellence in not only the new rolling stock but also the facilities, processes and above all people that will maintain them in the years to come. Working within the Major Projects Directorate the successful candidate will have a proven track record in delivering complex-multi agency projects, ideally in the Rail industry. The role will support the Commercial and Engineering Lead and will work closely with train manufacturers to develop the future rail offering for the North. We are looking for a senior level rolling stock engineer with a passion for working collaboratively in the business and the wider industry to drive the project forward. You will be part of the team deriving the decisions for new trains from the bidding stage. You will provide TPE with technical support to the design, build and delivery stage of our New Trains project, giving inputs to early-stage development, detailed design and implementation work, ensuring appropriate representation of TPE’s interests. You will be required to ensure train design, procurement and implementation plans comply with industry legislation and company standards, supporting design reviews, inspections and acceptance. You will lead critical internal workstreams to ensure a successful fleet introduction, managing change through our Safety, Engineering and Competence Management Systems. You will provide key engineering input to the rolling stock design, manufacturing and test locations, managing the interfaces between TPE, the local manufacturer’s team and representatives of the relevant financing companies, to monitor and report on progress, and to participate in or facilitate detection, discussion and resolution of issues that arise during the new trains programme. A strong collaborator with a robust understanding of rolling stock engineering, you will have the ability and agility to work with partners to resolve risks and issues to deliver on business goals. You will have some commercial experience and be confident to work with high value commercial contracts. You will have strong project management skills to support your technical knowledge. An ability to conduct commercial management and collaborative working with our rolling stock supplier will be important. Strong written and presentation skills are a key aspect to this role. The successful candidate will focus on the technical delivery of the project, whilst engaging with colleagues from frontline to board room across the Industry, whilst driving the successful delivery of new trains to improve and expand our network.
