The Accounts Receivable Manager is responsible for billing, cash collection and the debtor ledger. This is a hands-on role, requiring direct credit control activity on key accounts alongside management of the wider AR process and team. The role manages overdue debt, disputes and payment blockers, and provides clear visibility of debtor risk, expected receipts and actions required to reduce aged debt. The role also supports cashflow forecasting by maintaining a clear daily, weekly and monthly view of expected receipts, payment commitments and collection risks to support overall cash management.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the Accounts Receivable function, driving strong cash collection performance and ensuring overdue debt is proactively managed and resolved.
  • Take ownership of customer credit risk, monitoring account health, reducing bad debt exposure and providing clear recommendations on risk mitigation.
  • Deliver meaningful reporting and insight to senior leadership on cash performance, debtor trends, collection activity and financial risk.
  • Ensure billing, cash allocation and account reconciliations are accurate, timely and well controlled, maintaining confidence in customer account data.
  • Partner closely with Sales, Operations, Customer Success and Finance to remove payment barriers, resolve disputes and improve the customer payment experience.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and automation, helping the team work more efficiently and focus on high-value activity.
  • Lead, coach and develop the AR team, creating a culture of accountability, ownership and continuous improvement.

Skills, experience and qualifications

  • Experience managing accounts receivable, credit control or collections in a busy finance environment, ideally with responsibility for both people and ledger performance.
  • Strong practical knowledge of billing, collections, cash allocation, customer reconciliations, dispute management and month-end AR reporting.
  • Ability to analyse aged debt quickly, identify collectible balances, understand blockers and determine appropriate escalation routes.
  • Confident using finance systems and Excel to review debtor data, identify trends, challenge assumptions and translate ledger detail into clear actions.
  • Experience managing or improving automated collections systems, workflows, exceptions and reporting outputs.
  • Confident communicator who can manage firm but professional conversations with customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to set priorities, maintain momentum and ensure agreed actions are followed through.
