Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Glasgow, Perth, Inverness or Aberdeen.

Salary: c.£55,000 + performance‑related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role: We are seeking a Commercial & Construction Solicitor with a pragmatic and commercial legal focus to join our well established legal Team. SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that’s not all – we’re upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown energy for the future and building a network for net zero to create secure power for generations to come.

You will:

  • Collaborate across project delivery, asset management, operations, procurement, and regulation teams.
  • Provide proactive, pragmatic legal advice on commercial, construction, regulatory, and procurement matters.
  • Ensure legal risks are clearly understood and effectively managed.
  • Work as an integral part of the legal team and the wider business, supporting business representatives to achieve those goals.

You have:

  • A qualified solicitor in Scotland with relevant PQE of around 0 - 5 years.
  • The ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Good negotiation, drafting, communication and interpersonal skills and a desire to work in‑house as part of a key business support function are essential for this role.
  • An ability to build strong working relations with clients, stakeholders, external Legal Counsel and the wider SSE Legal team.
