Are you a dynamic and forward thinking neonatal nurse? We have a vacancy for Band 6 QIS trained nurses on the Neonatal Unit at New Cross Hospital. The Neonatal teams offer a full range of specialist services in order to facilitate a timely, safe and effective patients’ journey throughout the health care system.
Main duties of the job
- Successful candidates will join our friendly, supportive teams and be part of a team reflective of the acuity of the patient group.
- Regular staff engagement, feedback sessions and a supportive ethos are actively practiced.
- We are looking to recruit staff who are enthusiastic and committed to providing high quality evidence-based care.
- We provide care to all newborn babies within the SSBC Neonatal Network from 23/40 weeks gestation.
- The post holder must be highly motivated and want to develop the service as well as their own personal skills and knowledge.
- All applicants should be flexible providing 24 hour, 7 days a week service, working a shift pattern of days and nights to meet the needs of the service.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Practice within an ethical framework based upon respect for the well-being and safety of patients and clients.
- Be responsible and professionally accountable for the assessment of care needs; development of personalised plans of care, implementation and evaluation of care without supervision.
- Lead a team and coordinate the clinical area in the absence of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse.
- Ensure planning and delivery of care aligns to professional values; act as a change agent, developing clinically effective practice through evidence-based practice.
- Support the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse in ensuring a culture of protecting patients from harm and deprivation of basic rights.
- Promote a clean and safe environment by ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and protocols.
- Ensure a high standard of care and record keeping in accordance with Nursing and Midwifery Council, Health and Care Professions Council, national legislation and local standards.
- Monitor standards of care with support of the Senior Sister / Charge Nurse and take action when standards fall below expected levels.
- Contribute to development and implementation of evidence-based protocols, standards, policies and clinical guidelines.
- Plan and coordinate the patient’s journey through the episode of care, promoting safe discharge and coordinating communication with interdisciplinary and inter-agency teams.
- Manage and develop team performance, model positive behaviour, and support staff development and revalidation.
