Job overview

We are currently recruiting for a part time band 2 Receptionist to join our Day Surgery theatre Unit at Singleton Hospital.

The theatre day unit is a busy fast moving environment and we are therefore looking for a hard working, caring and motivated individual to join us in this role.

The post holder is required to be responsible for the day-to-day running of the reception area within the Day Unit.The post holder will support the theatre staff in the effective booking, notification, admission and discharge of patients and their medical records.

The post holder will be required to input/amend details into the Theatre Operating Management System (TOMS) and to print and distribute operating lists to the relevant Theatres.

Main duties of the job

Develop good communication skills within limitations of role whilst maintaining confidentiality.

Provide reception duties, ensuring that all communication with patients, carers and staff is always undertaken in a courteous and helpful manner.

Inform Registered Nurse/ODP of patient details/messages relating to the patient’s care.

Receive and transfer telephone call within the department.

Maintain good working relationships with other members of the multidisciplinary team thus promoting a professional working environment.

Receive complex, sensitive or contentious information where reassurance is required to allay patient’s anxiety and alleviate stress

Greet and check patients detail on arrival to the unit Inform Theatre staff of the patient’s arrival.

Ensure that all patient medical notes/documentation/referrals accompany the patients to the Theatre area.

Prepare Operating lists for the following day’s theatre activity.

Pass all relevant patient information to relevant qualified practitioner.

Maintain a safe environment and assist in the cleaning, stocking, assembly, maintenance and preparation of reception areas and equipment/items.
