Job overview: Stockport NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting for a Specialist Grade Anaesthetist to join the friendly and forward thinking team of 30 general consultants and 12 intensive care consultants.
Main duties of the job:
- Possession of FRCA.
- Hold full registration and a licence to practise with the GMC.
- Have completed a minimum of 12 yearsâ medical work since obtaining a primary medical qualification, with at least 6 years in anaesthesia (or relevant specialties) at Specialty Doctor/closed SAS grade or equivalent, including overseas experience.
- Have a minimum of two years UK NHS experience.
- Demonstrate that they meet the Specialist Grade Generic Capabilities Framework for Anaesthesia.
- EDAIC or another recognised higher qualification is desirable but not essential. Applicants without these qualifications are encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate equivalent knowledge, skills and experience through their portfolio.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide delivery of a quality Specialist led service in general anaesthesia for on call and elective services.
- Responsible for the continuing care & treatment of patients in your charge & personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan.
- Responsible for the professional supervision, training & management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required & contributing to postgraduate & CPD activity locally & nationally as appropriate.
- Participate in clinical audit.
- Commitment to taking part in annual appraisal process.
- Responsible for compliance with personal continuing professional development requirements with the support of the Trust.
- It is mandatory for all Medical Staff to keep up to date with evidence based practice.
- Responsible for maintaining awareness of & acting in accordance with professional guidelines such as âDuties of a Doctorâ, âGood Medical Practiceâ, & the âGMC Performance Proceduresâ.
- In exceptional requirements to undertake additional duties for limited periods within the Trust.
Person specification:
Qualifications:
- Full GMC registration and licence to practise.
- Minimum of 12 years of medical work.
- Minimum of 6 years experience in Anaesthesia SAS roles.
- Minimum of 2 years UK experience.
- Evidence of meeting the Specialist Grade Generic Capabilities Framework.
- FRCA, EDAIC or equivalent.
- Recognised training in education, leadership or quality improvement.
Experience:
- Experience of teaching and a commitment to lifelong learning and CPD.
- GMC mandated clinical supervisor status.
- Interested in Undergraduate and Post graduate teaching.
- Experience of teaching medical and other staff.
- Formal training in educational supervision.
- Evidence of participation in Quality Improvement Projects.
Knowledge:
- Higher degree in anaesthesia, peri-operative medicine, critical care or related fields.
- ATLS/APLS.
