Staff Nurse – Medical Day Case Unit

Job overview

We are looking for a dynamic supportive experienced individual to join the medical day case team in an Staff Nurse role. The post holder will carry out nursing interventions and treatments to both speciality and general medical patients, providing them with good quality of living and therapeutic treatments as outpatients

This post is 23 hours per week Monday to Friday 08:00 – 18:00, there is the occasional Long day working on a Wednesday 08:00 – 20:00 .

Main duties of the job

Provide Direct patient care including:

  • Administering prescribed medical treatments
  • Administering blood products
  • Perform venepuncture/ cannulation
  • Undertaking CVAD line care including obtaining blood samples

Qualifications and Training

  • • Venepuncture and Cannulation trained
  • • Trained in venesection

Experience

  • • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • • Experience and understanding of nursing processes i.e. assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • • Experience of medical outpatients and/or acute medical nursing
  • • Experienced on a day unit eg medical, chemotherapy etc

Skills and knowledge

  • • Commitment to undertake professional development including Trust’s Preceptorship and essential training programmes
  • • Organised and prioritises workload
  • • Knowledge and understanding of: – harm free care and patient safety – quality/clinical governance – evidence based practice – patient safety
  • • Understanding of current issues in healthcare
