We have a great opportunity for a Senior Assistant Technical Officer who has a level 2 pharmacy-related qualification to join our growing pharmacy team, covering maternity leave for 24 hours per week.
We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team player to join our pharmacy department. You will have the opportunity to work in a varied role, develop your experience and skills while working in an expanding team.
Main duties of the job
Duties include:
- Lead and co-ordinate a team of Assistant Technical Officers
- Dispensing
- Assembly and supply of medication to hospital wards/departments
- Answering the telephone
- Stock control
- Ward top-ups
- Dealing directly with patients and other hospital staff under supervision
Some lifting is essential in this post. The successful candidate will receive full in-house training. This post is 24 hours per week with additional weekend and bank holiday requirements on a rota basis.

Job Description
Job Summary
- Lead and co-ordinate a team of Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs), and Trainee Pharmacy Technicians in ward supply & dispensary sections across the Trust.
- Ensure the contribution to the service is comprehensive, high quality and cost effective.
- Ensure ward supply & dispensary services are delivered efficiently, courteously and professionally, adhering to policies and procedures.
- Training and development of staff in ward supply & dispensary services.
- Conduct personal development appraisals of staff.
- Develop and expand the service as required.
- Write ward supply & dispensary procedures with managers.
- Manage ward/clinic stock reviews with ward managers and pharmacy staff.
- Attend meetings as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Ward Supply & Dispensary Services.
- Develop roles of ATOs and highlight training needs within Ward Supply & Dispensary Services.
- Participate in internal audits.
- Maintain and update own skills in relevant areas.
- Document events outside procedures and inform the appropriate manager.
- Use computer systems including Meditech, intranet/internet to produce documentation.
- Maintain stock control, costing and traceability; monitor stock rotation and manage manual ordering.
- Undertake duties within Ward Supply & Dispensary Services.
- Supervise all support operations within Ward Supply & Dispensary Areas.
- Continually assess, update and implement training manuals for support staff.
- Ensure housekeeping duties follow guidelines.
- Participate in recruitment of support staff.
- Carry out duties in other sections of the pharmacy department when required.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and education programs to stay current with pharmaceutical matters and legislation.
- Participate in development and project work aligned with Trust objectives.
- Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, COSHH and related standards.
- Support bank holidays, weekends, and shifts as per departmental arrangements.
- Perform reasonable duties as required; adapt to changes in practices, equipment, procedures, or hours with notice.
- Maintain total confidentiality at all times.
