We are seeking a motivated and innovative future leader to join us at this exciting juncture in a rapidly expanding Acute Medical Unit (AMU). We have recently rolled out a process driven Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) unit which, alongside the rest of AMU, is run by a dynamic and enthusiastic team. The unit serves a population of 250,000 and is a purpose-built 19-bedded unit with an assessment area that has 10 trolley spaces and chairs designated for the assessment of SDEC patients alongside acutely unwell patients.
The Department has a reputation for being forward-thinking with an adept ability to respond to the front door demands of the hospital. We are looking for three dynamic consultants to complement the current team of senior consultants. Our vision at AMU is to provide expert care at the front door over a 7-day working week, treating each patient as an individual through a process-driven model. To achieve this, our aim is to significantly expand our consultant numbers.
The clinical team is supported by junior medics, prescribing pharmacists, ward-based therapy, and nursing support teams, with plans to expand our Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Associate numbers.
Main duties of the job:
- Work in close collaboration with the AMU team to improve the management of medical admissions, supporting the achievement of departmental and trust key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Work within your own area of subspecialty interest to influence change and service improvement.
- Support the Trust in delivering an effective front door service to assist with patient flow and length of stay.
- Continue to support the AMU in delivering excellent length of stay for short stay inpatients.
- Mentor and support the resident medical staff on the AMU and as part of the general medicine on-call teams to create a culture of learning and development, promoting good team relationships.
- Provide teaching to resident medical staff colleagues to support their learning and development.
- Participate in the on-call medical consultant rota.
