The Team at SWB Pharmacy are looking for enthusiastic and ambitious Rotational Pharmacy Assistants to join our friendly team to rotate working in the brand new, state of the art Midland Metropolitan University Hospital which is now open, our new Sheldon Block Pharmacy which is due to open later this year and also Sandwell Health Campus Pharmacy.

Main duties of the job

  • Rotating into the following areas of Pharmacy on a rotational basis:
  • Dispensary
  • Clinical Ward Services

Main duties of the Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant - Stores & Distribution role:

  • Be based in the Pharmacy Stores & Distribution areas.
  • Receipting and booking in of Pharmacy deliveries.
  • To ensure all pharmacy goods are stored safely in the correct location in line with stock control principles.
  • To load appropriate stock into the pharmacy robot and assist with troubleshooting basic errors where applicable after completion of appropriate training.
  • To maintain the cold chain of any refrigerated/freezer items and report any breaches of the cold chain to a senior member of the stores team to be investigated.
  • To maintain a clean and safe environment and ensure all equipment is maintained and used in the correct manner following Health and Safety regulations.
  • Top up medications in the Automated Drug Cabinets on the wards.
  • Picking and processing medication requests for hospital ward/clinic areas.

**Note: this role is not a dispensary based role and does not involve dispensing.**

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

Band 3: You will be working under the direct supervision of Senior Pharmacy Assistants, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists throughout all rotations. Training will be provided in all rotational areas to ensure you are competent in all aspects of the role. There will be a requirement to work across all of our sites on a rotational basis, including the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. You will require an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent) for this role.

  • Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy services/equivalent - for Band 3.
  • Experience as an assistant or community based dispenser required - for Band 3.
  • Working knowledge of a broad range of medicines and their safety issues.
  • Knowledge of HASAW and COSHH regulations.
  • Legal requirements for dispensing and supplying medicines - for Band 3.
