Main area Pre-registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician (PTPT) Grade NHS AfC: Band 2. Contract Fixed term: 24 months (two year apprenticeship). Hours: Full time – 37.5 hours per week (one weekend in 7 to be covered and two late nights till 7pm per month to be covered. One bank holiday per year to be covered). Job ref 297-7418493.

Job overview

To develop the skills and knowledge in all areas of hospital pharmacy practice required to become a qualified Pharmacy Technician to deliver a 7-day patient focused pharmaceutical service. This will involve completion of the Pharmacy Technician (integrated) Apprenticeship certificate and completion of the Buttercups training course.

Main duties of the job

To complete a 2-year training and development apprenticeship under the supervision of a registered Pharmacy Technician and/or Pharmacist, in line with the requirements of the external training provider. This will include:

  • To undertake and complete the Pharmacy Technician (integrated) Apprenticeship
  • To undertake and complete the Buttercups training course which meets the requirements of the initial education and training standards for Pharmacy Technicians and has been accredited by GPhC.
  • To train and work in the designated areas within pharmacy, as set out in the training and development schedule, to complete the competencies required for each standard.
  • To contribute to the provision of a range of pharmaceutical services including the following core duties: dispensing, medicine management, procurement, distribution, including ward top up services, aseptic services, and medicine safety.

To ensure all pharmacy duties are carried out in accordance with legal, ethical, and professional guidelines e.g., Code of Ethics for Pharmacy Technicians, COSHH regulations, EC Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice, Health and Safety regulations and following the pharmacy departments and Trust procedures to meet the needs of our patients and other health care professionals.

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade C / level 4 and above in Maths, English and Science (Chemistry & Biology), or other relevant qualifications.

Skills

  • Proven verbal and written communication skills; ability to work well within various teams or work alone using initiative; excellent IT skills and ability to use Excel and Word; ability to plan and prioritise own work; attention to detail and accuracy whilst working under pressure; good time management and ability to meet deadlines; ability to deal confidentially with all staff and members of the public; able to use a keyboard for a large part of the day.
  • Able to adapt to change.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working in a hospital or community pharmacy; understands the role of a hospital pharmacy technician; understands the values of the NHS
