We are looking for an experienced administrator to join our friendly team. The post holder will provide a confidential, comprehensive and efficient administrative service to the Service Managers and laboratories within Pathology. The role includes a varied range of administrative duties which will be specified according to diverse issues that arise on a daily basis. Some reception duties will also be required. An excellent telephone manner is needed for this role along with the ability to communicate with staff at all levels.
The administrative officer will be expected to portray a positive image and be able to liaise in a professional manner with clients, colleagues and visitors to the service.
English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should have good knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems, strong communication skills and the ability to prioritise work and identify urgent requirements.
You must be capable of working well in a team and having a flexible approach to the service needs is essential.

This doesn’t mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn\’t need to have skills in Welsh, we\’ll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. Person specification
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
- Knowledge of clerical and administrative procedures and systems acquired through NVQ level 3, or possess skills, knowledge, training and experience to equivalency.
Experience
- Experience of working in a busy office environment.
- Acquired knowledge and understanding of scientific and technical services provided by the department.
- Previous NHS experience as Receptionist/clerical officer.
Aptitude and Abilities
- Excellent communication and customer care skills with patients, relatives and staff.
- Must be able to communicate at all levels.
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
- Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above.
Other
- The post holder must have a flexible approach to needs of the service.
- Amenable to change as required.
