Job overview: This is an exciting opportunity for a Ward Receptionist to join a diverse and motivated team dedicated to the development of skills and the delivery of high-quality safe care. As the Ward Receptionist, you will often be the first point of contact for patients and visitors when entering the ward, so a friendly, welcoming smile and excellent communication skills are essential. You must be self-motivated, able to work in a busy environment, and possess good time management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, along with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.

Main duties of the job:

  • Provide a professional, efficient, and comprehensive reception service within Ward E37 and the Children's Assessment Unit at QMC.
  • Fulfilling all necessary reception, clerical, administrative, and general tasks required to facilitate and record patient treatment using paper-based health records and information technology systems.
  • Utilise the hospital Medway PAS computer system to capture and update necessary data after appropriate training.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information, following the I.G Code at all times.
  • Organise interpreting services as required.
  • Ensure that the reception area is clean and tidy.
  • Record patient attendances and accurate data on Medway PAS.
  • Prepare the required health records ready for consultation.
  • Confirm at each patient visit that all recorded details are complete and accurate.

Person specification:

  • Previous Receptionist / Customer Service experience.
  • Educated to ‘O’ level, GCSE or equivalent standard including English and Maths.
  • Experience of working in a hospital setting.
  • Good typing skills – RSA III/NVQ level 3 in an administrative qualification or equivalent level of experience.
  • Ability to demonstrate confidentiality & discretion.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Effective time management skills.
