Main duties of the job

Working across one of our two hospitals and within the community if preferred, you’ll have an important role to play in the care across the whole spectrum of pregnancy and birth. You will have the opportunity during your induction to work in all areas including Delivery Suite, Ante natal services and inpatient areas.

The multi-faceted nature of our Maternity Services unit means you’ll ensure families accessing our services receive excellent care, that’s tailored to their individual needs at every stage of their journey.

As a Midwife, you’ll be an active part of our Improvement Programme – being a voice for positive change within our multi-disciplinary team. You’ll have a say in how we implement, deliver, and evaluate our care and you will be part of the decision-making process that drives our transformation.

    • Be an advocate – for women and those accessing our services, for colleagues who deliver excellent care and who deserve recognition, and for the Trust – working within our guidelines, policies, procedures, and ethical and legal frameworks.
    • Be effective – in how you manage and prioritise your time, by ensuring resources are being used in the most efficient way across the team, by continuously assessing and evaluating how we deliver care, and by developing your skills in areas that you feel need the most focus.

    • Be professional – by always adhering to Health and Safety legislation, administration and storage of drugs, clinical incident reporting, infection control, child protection and safeguarding, and safekeeping of patient property.
  • Research and Education
    • Be curious – by taking part in clinical audits and trials to improve patient care. By using, developing, and sharing evidence based practice to carry out care competently and efficiently. And by participating in the evaluation of our education programmes.
    • Be an educator – mentoring both qualified and unqualified staff, including student midwives. Help people develop their leadership and supervision skills and complete any documentation required when taking on the role of mentor. Assist in the orientation of new staff or Return to Practice midwives where you will act as a preceptor.
