Clinical Fellow in HPB Surgery (POST CCT) in Nottingham

This Senior Clinical Fellow post is a one‑year fixed‑term contract (12 months) within the HPB Surgery Unit at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. The role is designed for registrars who have completed their final year of general surgery training, are post CCT in general surgery, and wish to expand their HPB surgical experience. The position will start in September 2026 – a second cohort will begin in October 2026.

Salary: £73,992 per annum (out‑of‑hours pay elements apply). Closing date: 11/01/2026 23:59.

Responsibilities

• The successful candidate will support the acute HPB service, undertake advanced HPB surgical techniques and contribute to the unit’s research programme.
• Assist in laparoscopic liver and pancreatic surgery, minimally invasive necrosectomy and complex open liver resections.
• Deliver acute HPB care under the supervision of consultant HPB surgeons; may undertake some sessions independently.
• Maintain competency in laparoscopic biliary surgery.
• Participate in departmental research, audits and teaching activities.

Working for our Organisation

The HPB Surgical Unit manages benign and malignant hepatobiliary and pancreatic conditions for a population of 2.5 million patients across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, East Staffordshire and Derbyshire. The unit performs approximately 150 liver resections and 90 pancreatic resections annually and has a strong research reputation.

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

• Full registration and licence to practice with the General Medical Council.

Experience

• Completion or within 3 months of Specialty Registrar training in General Surgery in the UK or equivalent CCT.
• HPB experience to final FRCS standard.
• Validated logbook of appropriate range and number of clinical procedures.

Qualities and Attributes

• Team‑player with excellent communication skills.
• Accurate record keeping and patient‑centred care.
• Research, audit and investigative work experience.

Other Requirements

• Effective written and spoken English skills (GMC Good Medical Practice).
• Independent laparoscopic biliary surgery competence.
