Main duties of the job:

  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist.
  • Specialist Portfolio or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced experience of microbiology.
  • Experience in training and supporting registration and specialist portfolios in medical microbiology.
  • Knowledge of recognition and identification of bacteria and other micro-organisms.
  • Flexibility in your approach as there is the requirement to work out of hours and weekends.
  • Excellent communication skills together with excellent organisational skills are essential requirements for this post.
  • Responsible for management of a technical section within the Department, directing the work of the other scientific and support staff in the day-to-day analytical provision of a high quality, cost-effective service.
  • Provides and coordinates specialist clinical technical services including research and audit.
  • Developing the section in line with departmental objectives.
  • To provide a lead role in the training and instruction of staff within their section.

Person specification:

  • Qualification: HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist, MSc in microbiology or working towards completing IBMS assessor for portfolios.
  • Experience: Evidence of knowledge/skills and experience of significant microbiology, experience of leading a team and managing a section, knowledge of Laboratory Accreditation and Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge and skills in quality management systems, evidence of CPD.
