Job Overview

The ICT Infrastructure and Development Manager is a senior member of the IM&T management team, responsible for leading and developing the organisation’s ICT Infrastructure and ICT Development functions. The role oversees the design, delivery, security and continuous improvement of core digital services, ensuring that the Trust’s technology environment is robust, scalable and strategically aligned with organisational goals.

Operating from the Oakwood Building and reporting directly to the Chief Technology Officer, the post holder plays a key role in shaping the Trust’s digital capabilities and supporting high‑quality service delivery across all departments.

This position provides leadership across technical teams and drives innovation in areas such as server and network architecture, cloud services, directory services and development initiatives. The role requires the ability to balance operational oversight with strategic planning, ensuring that infrastructure and development activities meet performance, governance and security requirements.

Main Duties

  • Design, maintain and develop the organisation’s server, virtualisation, network and data centre infrastructure, ensuring security, resilience and high availability.
  • Manage core directory and identity services including Active Directory, DNS, TCP/IP, group policies, Microsoft 365, Exchange, Teams and VDI platforms.
  • Oversee data security, protection and recovery, including backups, monitoring, asset management, firewall administration and defence against cyber‑security threats.
  • Lead the delivery, support and continuous improvement of end‑user computing, software deployment and enterprise management tools across desktops, laptops and servers.
  • Plan, prioritise and manage technical operations, including system maintenance, fault investigation, service performance monitoring and IM&T development workflows.
  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation across infrastructure and development programmes.
  • Provide expert technical advice to stakeholders, lead liaison with suppliers, support major projects and communicate complex technical information clearly across the Trust.
  • Manage and support staff, ensuring skills development, effective performance, quality control of technical processes and adherence to all IM&T standards and policies.

Key Details

  • Pay Enhancements – 30% additional for Evenings (8pm onwards) and Saturdays and 60% additional for Sundays and Bank holidays.
  • 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays rising to 29 after 5 years and 33 days after 10 years.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer care skills.
  • Evidence of knowledge development acquired through relevant specialist training courses, for example Microsoft Server, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Active Directory and other Microsoft certification.
  • Evidence of experience of working in an IT technical environment including a range of knowledge of network hardware and software installation, configuration and support; and networking technologies.
  • Ability to determine and develop the required change‑management processes to maximise benefits from the Trust’s IT investments.
  • Able to clearly manage priorities for self and team to meet deadlines and manage conflicting customer demands.
  • Knowledge and experience of Windows Server operating systems.
  • Knowledge and experience of Microsoft Active Directory implementation and administration.
  • Knowledge and experience of implementing and maintaining Microsoft 365 technologies, including Exchange, Teams and OneDrive.
  • Experience of evaluating network software/hardware for potential use within the infrastructure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, self‑prioritising and meeting deadlines.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development to acquire specialist IT knowledge acquired through relevant specialist training courses, e.g. network technologies, business contingency planning.
  • Knowledge and experience of Hypervisor virtual infrastructure, including Hyper‑V and Nutanix.
  • Knowledge and experience of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) implementation and administration.
  • Knowledge and experience of Storage Area Networks (SAN), including Nutanix.
