This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high quality, patient centred urological care across a large and diverse region, with services spanning Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.
Based primarily at Glangwili and Prince Philip General Hospitals, you will join a well established group of consultant colleagues providing comprehensive urology services across multiple hospital sites. You will contribute to the full breadth of general urology practice, participate in a 1:7 on call rota with middle grade support, and take an active role in weekly MDT meetings. The post includes scope to develop or consolidate subspecialty interests and to work collaboratively with regional partners, including Swansea Bay University Health Board.
We are looking for a colleague who brings enthusiasm, strong clinical leadership, and a commitment to multidisciplinary working. You will be supported by our comprehensive Consultant Development and Mentoring Programme, designed to help new consultants transition confidently into their role and develop as future leaders.
Main duties of the job
As a Consultant Urologist within Hywel Dda University Health Board, you will play a key role in delivering safe, effective and person centred urology services across our hospital sites. Your work will span outpatient care, diagnostics, theatre sessions, inpatient management, MDT participation and on call responsibilities, supported by a skilled multidisciplinary team. You will provide expert assessment, investigation and treatment for patients with a wide range of urological conditions, ensuring high clinical standards and contributing to a culture of learning, development and continuous improvement.
A core part of the role involves working collaboratively with consultant colleagues, specialist nurses, junior doctors and regional partners to deliver seamless patient pathways and maintain robust clinical governance. In addition to direct clinical duties, you will contribute to the education and supervision of medical trainees and other professionals, supporting our strong teaching culture and helping shape the next generation of clinicians. You will be encouraged to take part in audit, service development and research activity, and to use your leadership skills to help shape and evolve the future of urology services within the Health Board.
