An exciting opportunity for a full‑time, substantive Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Liverpool Clinical Laboratories Immunocytochemistry Team. The successful candidate will be an HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with experience in Histology and a strong grasp of Immunocytochemistry within Cellular Pathology.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of Immunocytochemistry diagnostics, operating and maintaining analytical equipment.
  • Problem‑solve specialist equipment used for immunocytochemical staining.
  • Review staining results, monitor internal quality control trends, and maintain documentation.
  • Participate in research, development and implementation of new immunocytochemical and in situ hybridisation techniques.
  • Evaluate new equipment and assist with validation and verification processes.
  • Deputise for the team leader and contribute to recruitment, training, health and safety, audit, and other quality‑management functions.
  • Work autonomously and collaboratively as part of the laboratory team.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Biomedical Science or equivalent.
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma in Cellular Pathology (or 2 years’ equivalent experience in Histology).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).

Experience

  • Post‑registration experience in a histopathology or Cellular Pathology laboratory.
  • In‑depth specialist knowledge of histology.
  • Practical experience in immunocytochemistry, non‑gynaecological cytology, renal and muscle biopsies.

Skills

  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
  • Effective verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong written communication, able to produce coherent documents.
  • Experience of in‑house training staff.
  • Ability to function autonomously while being a cooperative team member.
