An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic band 7 Highly Specialist Respiratory Physiologist to join our expanding Respiratory Laboratory. This exciting role will provide the successful candidate with a wonderful opportunity to develop skills and to perform a lead role performing cardio-pulmonary exercise testing within the respiratory laboratory. Primarily based at the Respiratory Laboratory, Aintree University Hospital you will play an active role in this busy department, leading the CPET service but also providing advanced PFT testing including challenge testing. The successful candidate will be required to work closely with the medical team, our admin team, other clinical physiologists in the department and members of the multi-disciplinary team. It is essential that you are self-motivated and have good communication skills. You should have clinical experience, preferably within the NHS.

Main duties of the job:

  • To perform and to take the lead in cardio-pulmonary exercise testing within the respiratory laboratory.
  • To liaise with surgical teams, lung cancer teams and diagnostic pathway co-ordinators to provide a safe and efficient service.
  • To develop the service, as well as providing risk stratification and risk management strategies.
  • To provide other advanced diagnostic testing for the respiratory lab as and when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence‑based Physiological Measurement.
  • Provide expert advice and clinical practice.
  • Participate in the education and development of other staff members.
  • Work collaboratively and co‑operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
  • Participate in improvement of services and the quality of care provision.
  • Undertakes personal scientific and clinical research and equipment evaluation.
  • Provides management support and cover for the Respiratory Laboratory Manager as and when required.

Person specification:

Qualifications:

  • BSc(Hon) Clinical Physiology or equivalent
  • MSc or Higher in relevant subject /equivalent
  • Qualifications of ARTP part 1 and 2 or equivalent
  • Registration should be membership of the RCCP and/or AHCS.
  • Teaching and assessing ECDL or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • A broad range of knowledge and experience from working in Clinical Physiology - post qualification
  • Experience in performing complex and highly specialist tests in Clinical Physiology services, including respiratory physiology
  • Experience of supervising junior and trainee staff
  • Basic management experience

Knowledge:

  • Continuing Evidence of CPD
  • Participated in service development and implementation of change
  • Participation in staff management
  • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues and agendas.
  • Knowledge and experience of research and audit methodology

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding.
  • Able to present written information in a logical manner.
  • Basic IT skills in word processing and spreadsheets
  • Able to manage own workload, coordinate the work of others and work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to collect and interpret data with precision
